Golf
Resort to Open in Cyprus
The new golf course at Aphrodite Hills, a £150 million, 578-acre
leisure, tourist and real estate development near Pafos in south-west
Cyprus, is due to open in September 2001.
Designed by
the American architect Cabell Robinson, the course, which occupies
two plateaux overlooking the Mediterranean, will be the island's
third 18-hole layout to add to nearby Tsada and Secret Valley.
Close to the
Sanctuary of Aphrodite, a pilgrimage centre of the ancient Greek
world which dates back to the 12th century BC, the resort will be
accessible
from the main coastal highway linking Limassol and Pafos, and is
15 minutes
by road from Pafos Airport.
Aphrodite Hills
also includes a five star Inter-Continental Resort hotel, which
is due to open in April 2003, and approximately 1,000 units of real
estate to be sold as plots, luxury villas, town houses and apartments.
Meanwhile,
plans are in hand to develop five more courses on the island in
the next five years as Cyprus seeks to improve tourism in the ‘shoulder’
periods of early spring and late autumn.
