FROM
FLIGHT-PATH TO FAIRWAY
Hong Kong’s
disused Kai Tak airport runway has been selected as the dramatic
location for a golf driving range.
The old runway
– once one of the world’s busiest – juts out into Hong Kong’s busy
harbour, and is now home to Oriental Golf City.
At 1.6 million
square foot, with 500 bays, it is thought to be the world’s largest
driving range.
Featuring both
regular and grass bays, the range is surrounded by water on three
sides. With the futuristic cityscape of Hong Kong as a backdrop,
a visit to Oriental Golf City is worth it for the views alone.
Fees start from
HK$70 (about £6.30) an hour during midweek, non-peak times. The
range is open seven days a week until midnight and clubs are available
for hire.
