BRITISH
OPEN GOLF TOUR SPECIALIST ANNOUNCES BRITISH OPEN 2001 GOLF TOUR
PACKAGE
Guests to Play at British Open Qualifying Courses, and Stay in Luxury Waterfront Country Hotel Just Minutes from Royal Lytham and St Anne’s Golf Club, England
With Millennium Open Championship fever buzzing in the Home of Golf,
British Open golf tour specialist G & L Golf Tours of St Andrews
– www.homeofgolftours.com - announced today that
it is introducing a new golf tour package created in conjunction
with next year’s 130th Open Golf Championship. Launched
in the wake of the world-wide golfing frenzy triggered by the likes
of Tiger Woods, G & L Golf Tours is prepared for this premium
golf tour package to sell out within a few weeks. Last year, the
company’s British Open 2000 package sold out immediately, with demand
for space far outstripping capacity.
Course Tougher Than Carnoustie
The
Open Championship is set to take place 19-22nd July 2001 at the
Royal Lytham and St Anne’s Golf Club in Lytham St Anne’s, England.
British Open 2001 marks the Open Championship’s l0th visit to the
Royal Lytham and St Anne’s Golf Club, which is, according to professional
golfer and course designer Peter Thomson, the toughest course on
the British Open circuit. The Lancashire-based course boasts a rich
heritage of golfing champions, including Open Champions Bobby Jones
in l926, and Tom Lehman in 1996.
Waterfront Luxury Hotel a l0 Minute Walk to British Open Action
From
16 – 23rd July 2001, guests will stay in the town of Lytham St Anne’s
at the lovely Edenfield Country House Hotel, a four star luxury
hotel built in 1871 overlooking the sea. In just l0 minutes, guests
can stroll over to the ninth hole of the Royal Lytham and St Anne’s
golf course where all of the Open action will take place. This historic
hotel resort, which features a conservatory sunroom, games room
and fitness centre, is a tranquil retreat with plenty of entertainment
for the avid golfer. In addition to Royal Lytham and St Anne’s,
there are two more golf courses within walking distance.
Package Features 4 Days of Golf on Open Qualifying Courses
Guests
will be treated to four days of golf under the guidance of Gerhard
Van Zyl, co-owner of G & L Golf Tours. Golfers will put their
golfing skills to the test on four of the Open Qualifying Courses,
including the Hesketh Golf Club course where American PGA golf pro
Larry Mize played to qualify for the Open. A real highlight will
be a day of play at the Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club course,
designed by James Braid, which hosted the Ryder Cup Championship
playoffs in l933 and 1937.
British Open Passes for Saturday and Championship Playoff Day
Golfers
will give their clubs a rest on Saturday and Sunday when they head
out for an action-packed weekend of British Open competition. Every
guest will receive full day passes to the final two days of the
Open Championship. "For those who have never experienced a
British Open tournament, it’s just a fantastic experience, even
for the non-golfer. It’s like watching the golf world’s Hit Parade
of championship golfers," said Van Zyl. "Where else can
you stand just yards away from superstars like Tiger Woods, Greg
Norman or Arnold Palmer as they practice on the green, or battle
their way out of an impossible bunker? It’s really like one big
party, where there’s something for everyone. Plus, a fantastic selection
of great food and drinks in the champagne tents, and an amazing
array of shopping in the tented village," he added.
More to the British Open than Golf
For
the nongolfer, plenty of sightseeing is within reach, with outings
to historic York and Lancashire countryside, dotted with medieval
castles and museums. For a leisurely afternoon of outstanding shopping
and dining, the coastal town of Southport is just an hour away.
For those who’d like to enjoy a trip to the Home of Golf in conjunction
with the British Open 2001 package, Scotland is only four hours
away. With Manchester airport close by, guests will have easy access
to Ireland, and to the ferry which travels to the Continent, home
of popular golf destinations in Spain, Portugal and France.
