The Breakers in Palm Beach, established as one of America's most luxurious oceanfront resorts, is to upgrade its Ocean Golf Course - the oldest golf course in Florida - as part of a multi-million pound renovation programme.

Established over 100 years ago, the par-70 Ocean Golf Course is situated within the resort's 140 acres of tropical grounds and was created by Alexander Findley in the Donald Ross style.

In May, renowned US golf architect Brian Silva will begin improvements on tee elevations, tee sizes, surface slopes, pin-placement areas and bunkers, as well as installing a new drainage and complex irrigation system.

Palm Beach County, home to golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman, is considered to be the capital of golf in Florida with over 150 golf courses. The Breakers boasts two championship golf courses, in addition to the Ocean Golf Course, located just 10 miles west from the resort is Breakers West.

During the renovation, The Breakers will ensure there will be minimal disruption to golfers as a special complimentary shuttle service will provide easy access to the championship par-71 Breakers West Course.

The Breakers is also building a new clubhouse, plus renovating the resort's tennis facilities, which together with the golf course improvements is the culmination of the resort's seven year US$100 million upgrade programme.

The resort recently unveiled a US$25 million ultra-luxury Spa and Beach Club complex, which includes four pools, 17 treatment rooms and Spa suites, a unisex beauty salon providing manicures, pedicures, body wraps, makeovers, massage and reflexology, plus an ocean view fitness centre.
