Welcome
to the Drambuie World Ice Golf Championships
From the 17th
- 22nd March 2002 why not visit the Drambuie World Ice Golf Championship.
This will be the 4th time this exciting challenge will have been
played - put it in your calendar
Almost 600 km
north of the Arctic Circle, on the west coast of Greenland, lies
the little town of Uummannaq. From December through to May, the
fjord leading in to Uummannaq is covered by a metre-thick sheet
of ice. Huge icebergs containing thousand-year-old ice lie frozen
in the fjord, caught by the freeze on their journey out towards
the open sea.
If
you've tried the greens of Europe, you'll find playing on Greenland's
"whites" something quite special! It is in the midst of this fantastic
scenery that the Drambuie World Ice Golf Championship 2002 will
be held.
Participants
will come from all over the world, drawn by the prospect of a magnificent
experience in breathtaking surroundings breathtaking even to the
most seasoned of travellers. Anyone with a handicap of up to 36
can take part.
Uummannaq Ice
Golf Committee and many excellent people in this small community
are responsible for the arrangements. Drambuie has been our main
and title sponsor right from the start, and they have taken the
tournament from strength to strength ever since, making it bigger
and better than ever imagined.
We very much
look forward to welcoming you to Uummannaq.
At the time of the tournament there are 15 hours of daylight in
Uummannaq. As the ultimate golfing adventure, The Drambuie World
Ice Golf Championship achieved international recognition in 2001
with broadcast coverage reaching 530 million homes in over 130 countries.
In 2002, Drambuie
will be heightening the excitement by bringing back Annika Östberg
to defend her title in a bid for a unique hat trick. Facing her
will be strong American challengers as well as leading golfers from
the European Challenge Tour.
