THE GREAT
ESCAPE
The Outer Hebrides is a
chain of wild and beautiful islands in the north west of Scotland and perfect
for anyone looking for the ultimate get-away-from-it-all golfing experience. This
beautiful part of Scotland has five golf courses scattered among the islands of
Lewis, Harris, Benbecula, Uist and Barra. Four of the courses are nine-hole layouts
with two sets of tees but the Stornoway Golf Club on Lewis has a full complement
of 18 and although relatively short in overall length, it is a good challenge
and professionally maintained.
Long daylight hours in summer
and uncrowded fairways are features unique to this part of Scotland and golf can
be combined with other leisure activities such as game fishing, bird-watching,
hill walking and climbing.
Visitors are made very welcome
in the Western Isles but should remember that the courses on Stornoway and Harris
are closed for play on Sundays.
