SYDNEY:
The Home of Five Rings and 216 Great Holes.
Riverside Oaks Golf Club
 |
If
you have a day to spare from the intense competition for Olympic
medals, inquire about hiring a car and heading to the outskirts
of the metropolitan area to either Riverside Oaks or
Camden Lakeside Golf Clubs.
Riverside
Oaks is about 90 minutes drive north west of
|
|
the
city centre on the banks of the Hawkesbury River. This pay-for-play
course has hosted several Australian PGA and Tournament Players
Championships and has undergone several redesigns during the
past 10 years.

Holes
14 to 18, are arguably the toughest closing five holes in Sydney,
perhaps Australia. Of these, the par-4 15th is the most
brutal. Water hugs the left of the fairway and green and at 423-yards,
plenty of distance and pinpoint accuracy are needed to even entertain
the thought of making par.
Water
plays a major part on every hole of the back nine and where there's
water…there are kangaroos. The local kangaroo population at Riverside
Oaks numbers about 50 and they are golfer friendly. In fact, they
don't mind having their photograph taken and will often show off
by bounding off across the fairway into the Aussie bush.
