East
Sussex National
Just north of
Eastbourne and nestling in the gentle downlands of Sussex, the East
Sussex National provides 36 holes of excellent golf.
The East course
was the one selected for the professionals when the club was host
to the European Open, reflecting mainly the ease of spectator movement
as much as the merits of the layout.
The West course
though is just as exciting to play and is considiered by many as
the superior of the two cousres.
Both courses,
built by Bob Cupp, a former design associate of Jack Nicklaus, the
East Sussex courses are maintained to the highest standards.
While there
is an American heritage in their genesis, and American influence
in their conditioning, the gentle pastoral splendour of their setting
makes them a quintessentially English property, with strong holes
demanding bold shots and a sense of judgement.
