  Golf in Texas

For a destination usually associated with cowpokes, longhorns and rodeos, Texas boasts a rich golfing heritage. From lush manicured lawns in East Texas to championship links on the Gulf Coast, Texas scores a hole-in-one with professionals and hackers alike.

Aside from the golf, there is a wide variety of activities to do and places to see; there is of the "Western Experience", cattle drives, ranches and rodeos. But don't forget the history, Texas has a pretty eventful one and there are plenty of missions, forts and battle sites, along with the replicas of Columbus' three ships at Corpus Christi.

Texas also has beautiful beaches with wide expanses of white sand, gently sloping off to the Gulf of Mexico. Nature and the outdoors is a big feature of Texas, with plenty of activities such as hiking, fishing, boating and rock climbing. However if you get tired of all that open space, visit one of the big cities in the state, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, they all have plenty to offer, with shopping, the arts, sports and of course theme parks for the kids.

But back to the golf. The true strength of Texas golf lies in the range of courses that are available and the diversity of the terrain that characterises the region. The state posses everything from easily accessible public courses, just a stone's throw from the major city airports, to beautiful championship courses designed by famous names and golfing legends such as Greg Norman and Arnold Palmer. Local Hero Bryon Nelson, PGA Champion, was responsible for the challenging but compelling Las Colinas Course. This is now the course of the Bryon Nelson Classic - one of several PGA tournaments played in the state.
